"I've been in a lot of organizations: I know how 10 run a meeting," he said.
·
·
He admitted, though, that he
must familiarize himself with the
AA league,
.
"I'd like sometime to sec it' ~et

and '50 - and with sponsors," he
said. "You don'tsee sponsors like '
you used to 'with the automobile
agencies and teams like Smith' s
Sheriffs.
.
"Now, everyone has to scratch
like we did in the efu-ly years when
we got a ·baseball and taped it up
and drove nails in the batS."
That's a little extreme for the
. '90s, of course, but the point is
well taken. A lot of managers dip
into their own pockets to pay the
bills.
"I think baseball in Akron
should profit more from the AA
league," Schoonover said. "We
need 10 send. the kids along to college and the pro leagues. And we
need the support of the community
to do this.
•
r

"The biggest problem the have is funct raising," he continued. "We need me biiWng of dlr:
COI]lOrate stnlCture 'to ,fund the program so rhat we can give the players the fields they .need, the uniforms that are a necessity and tbe
pride in their accomplishments." _
· Piekarski,thinks SchoonoVCI' as
ideal for the job. "He's got the
experience," the ourgoing QDIIIII!issioner said. "He can do anythang
