High purity polyester is sanctioned by the .
government for use in food packaging, can be
recycled and is more energy - efficient than
many other packaging materials. ·
In 1975, Goodyear added a continuous
processing unit and in 1977. began work on an
expansion of a polymerization process used
to produce high purity food grade resin. The
plant was constructed in 1959 to produce
textile and tire grade polyester resins.
The new investment will increase overall
resin capacity by an additionaiiO per cent. In
addition to carbonated beverage containers
· and other packaging applications, polyester
resin is used for tire cord, textiles and
monofilament for strapping, clothing, dryer
fabric s and molded goods. No new
employment is expected. The plant employs
about 500 persons.

POINT PLEASANT , W.Va .- Goodyear is

polyester resin used to make soft drink

such investment in three years at its facility
near here .
Chai rman Charles J . Pilliod Jr. said the
$4 .7 million expenditures brings the
com pa ny's total investment here in the last
three years to almost $30 million and will
boost Goodyear 's food grade resin capacity
by 20 per cent. The money will be used· to
strea mline current processes.
" This·latest investment underscores Goodyear's comm itment to the food packaging
industry , where we • have become the
innovative leader since the introduction two
years ago or polyester soft drink bottles

expect that total demand for high purity

DEAR SURE :
You're thinking only or yoursell when you should be considering the honoree . If you love him, you won't want to turn

DEAR HELEN.
I am responding to the recent ~ olumns in which writers com·

.

These l'linics and agencies are stalled primarily by social
workers and-<Jr psychologists. There is a tendency to think of
m1y therapist as a psychiatrist, when in !act the vast majority
ol mental health prolessiunals .are nul. Psychiatrisl.li have
their share ol treaUnenl failures, as do physicians , but it's unfa ir to lay at their dour, !atl~res by other 1nun-medically trained I therapists .
Tu clarify the difference among the three major menllll
health professions: the social worker has a Master's degree
with one yea r's training after college , in which he or she lakes
cuur.l:ies . and works Wlder supervision at an agency . The

clinical psychologist has a Master's ur

The Federal EPA is coming to town August 22nd. To the St.
Clairsville Sheraton Inn. At 9 a.m. They'~e coming to hold a hearing about Ohio's coal. What they're really talking about is your
job. About the jobs of 15,000 coal miners and 55,000 other jobs in
the Ohio River Valley that depend on coal mining . About the survival of our Valley. If the hearing is for them to hear what we have·
to say, let's let them know. Loud and clear .
The misguided environmentalists, do-gooders and
Federal bureaucrats are saying that Ohio's coal, untold millions
of tons, isn't good enough. Too high in sulfur. They say we should
go out-of-state for very expensive low sulfur coal. They say we
should scrap the Ohio coal industry, the lifeblood of our Valley.
Remember, if we let that happen , 15,000 miners will be
thrown out of work. 55,000 other jobs in the Valley will dry up. Our
Valley will die.
You know who'll be at that hearing_ Everybody with nothing
to do, and even less to lose. Out-of·stat~rs telling Ohio what we
can do with our coal. What can you.do? Show up August 22nd .
Raise your voice. Take a stand. ·

which is to be completed this year.
The va luation increase will be noted on
tax bills mailed next January for taxes
incurred this year .
Mrs. Dorothy Condee, county auditor
sa id Saturday, even though she is opposed
to the increase it is mandated by
legislation enacted in 1972.
In order to equalize the tax structure
over the state , Ohio lawmakers passed a
law whereby all real estate ·must be appraised at market value•and be taxed at 35
percent of that value. When count ies began
their reappraisals under the law there was
such a drastic increase ln taxes Lhat the
state decided to do an update every three
years to offset such a tax jump.
In order to determine the amount of
the increase, the Department of Tax
Equalization sends a representative from
its department to the auditor's office
periodlcallv to check the orice real estate
IS selling for and then compares that price
with what is placed on the tax duplicate.
Ftbm that information a percentage is
given to the auditor whereby he or she
must increase or decrease the values
accordingly.
Mrs. Condee bas received the
perceotages she must use wbleb are as

farm buildings, 20 percent; commercial
and lndut~trlal , 2l perce nt, and
residential, 45 percent for an overall
average ol39 perceat. The auditor states
that although values will ao doubt IDcrease, lt does not necessarily mean that
