site. The reason for the walk off
was the belief by the painters
that the bridge hod been haphazardly constructed. One of the
painters ssid publicly tllet the
superstructure had .. spots of rust
which were being painted over
and several loose bolts were also
noticed."
Carpenter told this newspaper
that the charges were false.
Carpenter said ttat there were
some l0011e bolts and spots of
rust, but npthing out. of the ordinary. 11te loose bolts were lett
loose intentlorally so that the
bridge cooid be jacked "' in the
center, an:l as soon as this is
done, they wiD be tightened.
As for the rust on the surface,
it too Is Intentional. The bridge's
steel was _painted in the abop am
