New Liquid Dyes

Given Recently

Work in Washer

For Mrs. Vance

By POLLY CRAMER
DEAR POU. Y - Like Barb, I had trouble dyeing articles
satisfactorily but the new liquid dyes work beautifully in

my washing machine. I use HOT water, pour in the dye,
mix thoroughly BEFORE putting in the article. Let it go
through the full wash cycle twice. Do NOT let it rinse In
between. After running through the wash cycle twice, I

use three cold-water rinses or until the water runs out

clear. I have even dyed things as large as bedspreads.
When rewashing, use a cold-water detergent and wash
the dyed article separately from the other wash. A small
amount of dye is sure to wash out but not enough to hurt
the looks of the ilem.-LUELLA

DEAR POU.Y- When
you finish dyeing and rlns·
tng anything, put It in cold
water with a handful of
salt to set the color. I also

Let;s
Pbff l)p Story '
Of Disturbed Hiiacker
It Isn't surprising that an Italian ftlm company plans \o ·
mille a movie about Lance Cpl. Raffaele ~hleUo. H s
17·hour, 6,1f00.mlle hijacking of a TWA jeWner from Los
.Angeles to Rome, via Denver, New York, Ban-or and DubUn, was wilder than any Italian Western ret.
·
Nor is It surprlsiDg that Minichiello alloUld be receiving
lbe inevitable oilers of marriage from lmpressloneble girls.
He may be a cr117, mixed-up kid, but be's also rather cute·
looking.
Nor Is It surpriaing that hll home town in lh8 mountains
·near Naples is solidly behind him. How often doesurone
'from Melito Jrplno became a world·famoua celebnty?
· What wW be surprising, however, Is If some ~le. both
·here and in Europe, don't try to mate more oufof the stoey
11w1 it l'lllly ls-<1 very disturbed young man wha got In
'"'uble with the U.S. Marines and decided to bug out In a
~ular way, interfering with and endangering the Uvea
ol more than tO Innocent people while doing i\.
It bas already been ouggested that since MinlchieUo is '!
Vleblam veteran, his e.periences In that war might have
aomothing to do with his behavior. We can see the anii·U .S.
l»CClet signs now.
Minichiello has been charged In Italy with eight crimes,
fanglng from two counts of kidnaping to iUegal importation
'Of a m.lll~ weapon. Conviction on the former charges
'COuld get &1m 30 years. For good measure a federal gr8nd
in New Yorll has handed up an indictment charging
with air piracy, kidnaping and assault.
' The boy obviously has enough problems of his own to
worry about. It Is to be hoped he is not made to carry the
weight of a lot of International ideological baggage as welL

More and more frequenUy, employers are ftndlng them·
