A GAIN we are privtieged

to pay tribute
to the members of the Future Farmers of America as they celebrate their
week. It is one of the worthy orgaruzations of students in our county with a
chapter at Racine and one proposed at
Rutiand, according to reports. It would
be bard to calculate great benefits that
this county has derived from those who
have enlisted under banner of the organi zation. Through the years several of the
chapters have produced youth wbo havo
won statewide honors, and we are quite
Jure that the principles of FFA have pro.
duced real leaders in every phase of
community life. We are sure that the
standards of farming in aU branches
have shown improvement through the
instructions they have received, and in
truth the FFA program has given everyone faith in the future of Meigs county
aerfculture .
Whtn one looks at the creed of FFA
they have a belief in the worthy program
of the organization. If the students enrolled review this creed they can not help
but be good farmers, as well as. good citIzens In every respect. First they believe
In the future of farming. They therefore
have a positive attitude and one weligrounded in the past glories of American
farming. They also are, or should be convinced that there Is a good life on the
farm, a heritage that ha.s come down to
us from the very first a~riculturists in
the land . We know that there is a great
lure to resettle In urban renters. but Am·
triran• generally know that thP goorl life
Is close to the soil, and we are &lad th.1 t

there is one organization pointing that
fact out to tbe younger generations.
One of the greatest contrlbutlons that
the f'f'A promotes is leadership. Not only
tn the field Of agnculture but in every
facet· of community life. They promote
the type of leadership that II not dependent on begging and more belief in the power of bargaining. The outlook is based
on being happy and playing square with
those whose happiness is dependent upon them. We have watched with Interest
the activities of the clubs in promoting
parliamentary procedure. Many other organizations could follow their example
and we would tlnd that In many actlvitl.,
of organizations would be run more effi.
ciently if !bey followed the rules of procedure. In that u in many other contest.
In wbleh they engage they gain a self-reliance that Is one of the most valuable
traits they wlll ever poosess.
Members of FFA fain valuable t'!<perience in the practica through vanous
projects, which along with their book
learning can not help but make them
useful citizens for the remainder of
their days. They gain valuable lessons In
thrift, which mlgbt be considered oldfashioned by some but which Is a needed element in these davo of waste and
careless spending. We know of no other
or~anization that has better aims and
p.. •poses. and If the members will rededicate themselves to the rreed and the
aims and purposes so nobly drawn up
they could remakt the Image of our
countv and make It the leader In tho
tvpes of a~culture best suited to its
land.
