Ideal Education
DURING tb1J Um• of vacations for the

legion In every community, it may be
a good time to u:plort the direction we

with returned college students about
the progress of their education, which we
are aurt is much more meaningful than
possibly what their parents or grandpar·
ents received, At least they appear to be
more worldly wise, but we will not know
the real results tmtil many years pass.
Recently we read of what one man'•
concept of what he felt the objectives of
education mould be, and his opinion of
the recipients of today's education. He
thinks that we will really arrive when
education produces sci!ntists , who are
not ignorant of politics, polit•c•ans who
are not ignorant of science and business
men who can rejoice h1 a sunset or a so~
nata as well as the chatter of a compu·
ter, What he is attempting to show and
it has been said over the years, ts the
need for the whole man, Men and women wjtb brains can perfect things that
make life easier, but not add one 1ota to

persons who in their field are beyond

about oth~r things, or havmg a phtloso·
phy of life that shows compaSSion for
others and a moral respo)nsibility to
those who sll11'0und them, they are as
lost sheep, The year's approaching end
