Nothing II certAin but indications are that Pomerot council
senously is considering expansion of Its street metering sys·
tern to'tate in most or all of the riverside parking .lqts. Best
sign of lhiJ is that one company has completed a sqrvey and
given a recommondalloll and another is on the ill!> getiJM fi·
guns together for one of its own. The latter is the Dual Park·
ing Meter Co., which sold Pomeroy Its present meters. It was
the Miller IYII" meter peiiple who came first.
There is little doubt that something must be done. Ade- 1
quate parking space here is not the gigantic puule it has be· ~·
come in metropolitan centers. It is diflieult enough, however.
When meters first were installed sereral years ago afler a
long battle between the pros and the cons the devtces served
Cor a~hile to leave space for out-of·town shoppers to park
close-In to the stores of their ehoice, With advent of the ear·
pools and greater use Qf the free downtown Jots by folks who
wo•k in town the parking problem Is back exactly where it
stood five years a~o.
The first solution to this appears to be comoletion of off·
street parking space in Sugar Run north of Fifth St. An area
a<lequate for about 80 cars needs nothing more than another
surface of gravel. The town owns ample real estate beyond its
present partially completed parking lot to expand. People ·
with all·day busmess in town must have a place to leav.e their
cars. And in a town they should not ha\'il to poy for it. Columbus, yes, where there are other ways such as busses to get to
the city, and where many firms have parking lots for their
