<text>David Lawrence Grate, born December 28, 1945, departed from this world on May 5, 2024. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Arnold and Mildred Grate, his brother Herbert Grate, and his daughter Tracey Grate. He is survived by his son, Tony (Miranda) Grate, and their cherished children: Elliotte, Lane, Levi, and Lachlan.

Dave graduated from Rutland High School, where he laid the foundation for a lifetime of memories and friendships. He served with honor in the National Guard, exemplifying dedication and commitment to his country. Dave found spiritual nourishment at the Rutland Church of the Nazarene, where he sought solace and community.

Dedicated to his family and profession, Dave spent much of his life at Rutland Bottle Gas, a business founded by his father. With his steadfast friend Bill Coy by his side, Dave took the reins and steered the business forward, leaving an indelible mark on the community.

An avid enthusiast of ball cards and NASCAR, Dave found joy in collecting memorabilia from both passions. He possessed a heart full of compassion for animals, never turning away a cat or dog in need, and often found solace in caring for the stray cats that frequented his home and business.

Dave will be remembered for his kindness, his unwavering love for his family, and his generosity toward all creatures great and small. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
