Meigs
Economic
Development Director Mik~

economic forecast for the
county at large.
Gulliver, who ha s been on

In regards to the AEP
plant. Gulliver noted the
plant's new technology
which will allow burning of
high sulfur coa l ·and could
restart the coal mining industry in Southeastern Ohio.
G-ulliver also believes the
plant's co nstruction phase
and subseq uen t workforce
cati only benefit the area by

local. including money spe nt
at th e growing medical facilities in the c:ounty.
Gulliver commended the ·
public support for th e AEP
plant at the recent Public
Utilities Commission of Ohio
public meeting at Meigs High
School and expects an answer
from the PUCO concerning a
cost recovery plan in ·lhe next
60 days .
Also on Gulliver"s li st was'
the expansion of the

CGC has an immediate ·

the opponents rarely drop the blade, so
his head stays aUached to his neck.

First,!Mugh, look at the West hand. What
would yo LJ lead against seven diamonds?
Over Sout~ ' s one-diamond opening,
West made a modern-sty le three-club
weak jump overcall ; ·not Worrying about
suit quality. Nortll cue-bid four clubs to
say that lle loved diSmonds. East made
an advan'ce sacrifice by jumping to si~
clubs. South doubled to warn his partner
that his hand was bener suited to defense
th an Ia offense. But North, who, despite
the double negative, wasn't taking no lor
an answer, jumped to seven diamonds.
West sensibly led a trump. The club ace
rated to be ruffed ; a singleton is almost
never righl against a grand slam (but
often sensible again st a small slam); and
a spade was dangerous.
The contract looked laydo•im. but there
was a faint risk of- 1.1 heart loser. Declarer ·
drew trumps and castled hjs sp,ade tricks,
learning that West had six clubs (from the
bidding), three diamonds and . at least
three spades. So, he had at most one
hearl. South cashed dummy's heart ace,
then called lor a low heart. and when
East played low, declarer cor1fldently put
in his nine . Seven diamonds bid and
made.
