POMEROY .- Parking on
the sidewalks on Lincoln Hill
became an issue at last night:s
meeting of Pomeroy VIllage
Council for at least one family.
Pamela Salyers asked
coimcil for permis~ion to park
her truck in front of her home
on Lincoln Hill because of her
disabled husband.
Salyers said she has a place
to park further up Lincoln .
_HilL Mayor John Musser asked ·
if she could not drop her husband off in front of the house
and then park the truck up the

hill. Salyers said she does but
that it was "very inconvenient" due to her husband's
condition.
Salyers also clai'med others
on Lincoln Hill park on the
sidewalk.
Pomeroy Police Chief
Mark E. Proffitt agreed but
added that he felt those other
vehicles parked on the sidewalk did not present a traffic
hazard and that the area near
the Salyers' home was a
"blind turn."
"We've had two traffic
crashes there recently and
numerous close calls," Proffitt
said. "It would not be an
exaggeration to say that we
(the
Pomeroy
Police

Department) have had close
to I 00 calls from up there
because of that truck parked
on the sidewalk."
Councilman Jim Sisson
expressed his concern. of a
larger, eme rgency ' vehic le
approaching the area.
"We can't have anything
that blocks the sidewalk and
moves pedestrians out into the
street," Musser said about the
area.
· Salyers said she and her
family had no problems with
parking on the sidewalk until
recently and blamed some of
the problems on a disagreement with a neighbor. She
also said she has had numerous neighbors say they would

si gn a petiticlli allowing her to
park her family 's trw.:k on the
sidewalk.
Mu sse r said he wis hed

Council then accepted the

of

Tatterson who had bee n

Mom ·should have final word on who spresent at delivery
DEAR ABBY I'm writing
regarding the letter from
"Pregnant and Annoyed," the
woman ha,ing her first child.
She wants her mother there
because of the woman's expe- rience birthing four children
and .having coac hed o1her
women through childbirth.
The h11sband inSists that tf his
mom can't also be there, no
one will be there except him .
As a labor and delivery'
nurse with 25 years· experi ence, I would like to point out
that while delivering a baby is
a joyful event. it is also difficult and stressful. I have seen
the progress of labor shut
down by a ~~;oman's anxiety
This isn't a show for fami ly
. entertamment. No one should
be in the labor room unless
the per~on is supportive to the
labonng woman and she
wants them there. Most labor
and delivery nurses understand this, so all the expectant

Crennel's debut on Sunday as
Cleve)and's coach was marred
by costly penalties, turnovers
and a defense that allowed too
many big plays-. all recurring
themes during fanner coach
Butch Davi s' four years with
the Browns.
"What we found out is that
there's a lot of work that has to

be done," Crennel said
Monday.
Cleveland's 27- 13 loss to
Cincinnati also included some
tough injuries - another hallmark of Davis' teams.
Lineb11cker Matt Stewar.t
and kick returner Joshua
Cribbs left the game with knee
injuries. The Browns did not
update
their
conditions
Monday. Tight end Steve
Heiden suffered a,painful neck
stinger but said .he didn 't
expect to miss any action.

Ci ncinnati's
explosive
offense exposed the deficiencies of the Browns new 3-4
defense.
''I don' t know that anybody
stood out or was a bright spot
on that side of the ball,"
Crennel said.
He said the loss to the

not realistic,' "he ·said.
·
Crennel did like what he saw
from Reuben Droughns, who
ran 12times for 78 yard.\, averaging 6.5 yards per carry ii> hi s
debut for Cleveland. So did
oiTemive lineman Ryan
Tucker. .
"I thought he ran hard. A lot
of the stulf that he did was stuff
we hadn 't even seen in prac-·
tice." Tucker said . "I can't say
enough about that guy. He's a
great addition to this team."

However. Droughn."i · was
hcnched in the 'ccond quarter
li>r William Green . who ran for
12 yards on· four carries. That
rotation could change, Crennel
said.
"Maybe Reuben might have
gone slightly ahead:· Crennel
said. '' In the preseason. the,Y

why we wanted to pia y both of
them. Reuben's play inight
