Trussell said. Trussell said she urges people not to sign any documents they haven' t read and understood completely. A sign of a predatory lender, she noted, is the tendency to add in seemingly insignificant clauses, such as the mandatory arbitra· tlon clause, which sounds like typical legalese. However. · It means the borrower will huve no right. after all the contructs huve been signed. to tuke the lender to coun. even when he or she finds the lender was dishonest. "Most of the people who fall into these traps don 't realize they can do better," Trussell added. "They muy have a lower income or even less than perfect credit. but there are other wuys of'buy· ing a home.'.' For instance, Trussell said, there are lenders called sub-prime lenders, who lend at a higher i~tcrr:st rate to people who have a poor credit history, or have less work-history than others.
